Caldwell EOS "Update" from May 1

The team at Caldwell EOS are well suited for our big ambitions at Caldwell EOS.  The garden is here captured in its "infant" stages and will be expanded in phases to include a butterfly garden, a rain garden, and many many raised beds.

Grow Some Love!

What: An art show and fundraising event for East Nashville school garden projects.
When: Saturday March 26 from 5-10
Where: the Green Wagon

Join us Saturday, March 26 from 5 until 10 to show some love for east Nashville school garden projects! Come check out local student art, shop green, and have fun for a great cause! Warner and Caldwell Elementary 2nd graders are teaming up with ENCM and The Green Wagon to raise funds for community gardening. In addition to fabulous student art, Yazoo Beer and Aunt April’s baked goods will be around to show their support. Together, let’s show some love for our kids, their health, their education, and their community!

And this is what Nashville Metro school news had to say...

"Caldwell Enhanced Option Elementary students have spent much of the 2010-11 school year tending to their newly planted and quickly growing gardens. Now, to keep up with the fast growth, the school is looking for the perfect design to expand the garden. Saturday, March 26, winners of the Garden Design Challenge will be announced at a public fundraising event, which will be held at The Green Wagon in East Nashville. The art that inspired the garden design submissions - student artwork - will be on display and for sale. Funds raised will help Caldwell build the new garden design. This is project is being done in close partnership with East Nashville Cooperative Ministry."

19 1/2 second graders long

Students at Caldwell EOS participated in an unusual activity last week. they measured how many second graders, end to end, it took to measure the length of their existing garden space--19 and 1/2 was their findings.

19 and 1/2 second graders translates to 65 and 1/2 feet X 65 and 1/2 feet. they are measuring the garden space for a garden expansion design challenge to be announced sometime in january.

This comes at the end of a week in which all second graders participated in drawing their perfects gardens in their art class. the drawings are being used to gather important information from these second graders regarding what they want their school garden to be, look like, and include. they drew amazing pictures of butterflies and bees, fruit trees and flowers, outdoor kitchens and classrooms, their friends, teachers, and families. One even drew a scene in the garden of people giving homeless folks food grown in the garden. their drawings will become the criterion by which the expansion design challenge will be judged.

pictures coming soon.
