Aquaponics & urban farm tour at Trevecca

Last Saturday a few of us enjoyed an enlightening tour of Trevecca's urban farm.
Jason Adkins, Environmental Projects Coordinator, generously spent time showing us their aquaponics system, greenhouse (and brilliant soil blocker system for starting seeds), chicken farm, biodiesel production site, unusual fruit plantings around campus, bike-powered grain mill, and solar food dehydrator made from reused scraps and an old refrigerator.
Good stuff going on there! Next time, you won't wanna miss it!

GrowFest: Home growin’ kickoff celebration, seed swap, and community discussion

Saturday February 23rd, 1-4pm
East Nashville Cooperative at 807 Main Street, Nashville, 37206
Inside the Cooperative and in the Garden
Family-friendly

This is a gathering made for sharing!

Please join us and bring one (or more) of these:

  • a homemade finger-food to share
  • seeds to swap
  • a photo or drawing of your garden, garden plans, or favorite/unique garden space (or potential garden space!) around town

Join the ENCM garden crew and local organizations as we share resources and inspiration to help you grow. At ENCM, we love plants, and we want to help you grow them!

We will have information about…
·    ENCM’s 2013 garden programs & how you can get involved
·    How you can be a part of our Peace Garden program
·    How you can sell what you grow
·    Opportunities to volunteer at or support local farms and food organizations
·    Community organizations supporting gardens and local food

And…
·    ENCM garden tours and Q & A time
·    Demonstrations in the garden using unique tools & techniques
·    Seed swap (bring yours if you’ve got them please!)
·    A community discussion circle at 2:00 p.m.: What is your vision of Nashville’s backyard food culture? How can we create a network of home gardens that feed us while creating community? What are your ideas about how we can share resources & ideas to create a vibrant part of Nashville's food system?

We’d like volunteers to help set up & decorate, bring finger foods, help organizations set up and break down, and clean up afterwards.
And we’d love a donation of compostable cups and napkins.

Questions or ideas: Hilary 615.601.2790, hilary@encm.org.
To volunteer or donate, contact Hilary or Eric at info@encm.org.
